On Monday (Jan 4.), the internet was buzzing with the rumor that Beyonce is writing and starring in an upcoming film about the life of Saartjie (Sarah) Baartman, the 19th-century South African woman taken from her home and inhumanly placed in freak shows due to her body type.
To the dismay of many, including South African Chief Jean Burgess, the rumor was faced with harsh backlash and criticism, with some believing Beyonce was not the right person for the job of telling Baartman’s poignant story.
But a representative for Beyoncé has told Billboard the singer is not connected to the film. “Beyoncé is in no way tied to this project. This is an important story that should be told, however,” the rep states.
Venus Noire is a film released in 2010 about Baartman's life, but if someone is planning on another, it needs to be done right!
