Remember when the game had a bunch of girl groups? Now there’s only one, Fifth Harmony. The game needs another hot girl group…I’m talking Destiny’s Child status. And who would be one of the best people to put one together? Kelly Rowland!
And she’s doing just that…
Rowland has teamed up with award-winning choreographer/creative director Frank Gatson and BET to find the next big girl group in a 10-episode series called Chasing Destiny.
The third round of auditions (following New York and Atlanta casting calls) occurred on Saturday (Dec. 5) in L.A. at Henson Studios. Rowland said her goal is to be a voice for female camaraderie. She told Billboard at the auditions, “One of the things I loved about being in Destiny’s Child was little girls seeing us travel together, sing together, talk together, hang out together. ….We need to see more of girls getting along. It’s not just about being an individual. You need friends to depend on. And I need these young ladies to know that still exists. And if they can see that in a group… that is the ultimate goal.”
She went on to say yes, the group is being manufactured, but the process is organic. “We haven’t put a particular age on this, a certain look or sound. It’s just going to happen. And drama’s going to happen naturally, too. I remember the producers asking if I’m planning anything. I’m not planning nothing because the public already has that show. This is a real journey.
Rowland serves as executive producer of the series, along with husband Tim Weatherspoon, Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager, Danny Rose and Jason Sands.
The series will premiere on April 5, 2016 (10 p.m.-11 p.m. ET).
