With KeKe Palmer’s recent signing to Island Records, the journey to propel her musical career begins…
The singer has a forthcoming single “I Don’t Belong To You” and has already filmed the video for it, on which KeKe is responsible for the concept – she’s not the little girl from “Akeelah and the Bee” anymore!
In the behind-the-scenes footage (below) the 22-year-old says she’s taking full control of her career now. “When I did other stuff before, I was just letting other people tell me what to do. I wasn’t having a real input about what I want it to be like,” she explains.
Her music career acts like the barrier to express to people the woman she’ s become, to separate herself from the characters she portrays in TV and film. “It became the epitome of this transition in my life… It’s really everything coming into my own. It’s just me saying I don’t belong to you, I belong to myself, and I define what is right to me, happy to me, and success to me,” she says of the single.
