We haven’t heard too much from BJ The Chicago Kid in 2015, but he’s just been bunkered down in the studio working on some new sounds. Over the weekend he reappeared with a new song called “Church,” featuring frequent collaborator Chance The Rapper and Compton-bred rhyme-sayer Buddy.
The soulful offering has BJ caught in the throes of temptation: “She say she wanna drink, do drugs, and have sex tonight/ But I got church in the mornin’, church in the mornin’,” he sings. The video has the singer in both in the sanctuary and outside the place of worship tempted by sinful pleasures.
The Chicago Kid is currently working on his Motown debut, In My Mind.
