Jill Scott is backpedalling after voicing her support for Bill Cosby late last year (2014).
Back in December, the veteran R&B singer went against the grain and uttered her support for the actor/comedian, citing unproven allegations despite the numerous sexual assault claims against him.
Scott's support came to a swift end on Monday after new reports claim Mr Cosby revealed under oath that he gave drugs to women with the intention of having sex with them.
"About Bill Cosby. Sadly his own testimony offers PROOF of terrible deeds, which is ALL I have ever required to believe the accusations," Scott wrote.
She continued to give her reasoning on why she supported Cosby, and why it was time to take that support back.
"We live in America. Many African American men are detained &/or imprisoned for crimes without evidence. I will never jump on bandwagons based on social media or hearsay," she adds. "Proof will always matter more than public opinion. The sworn testimony is proof. Completely disgusted."
Scott admits that the truth is painful because of her respect for Cosby.
She concluded: "I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It HURTS!!! When you get it ALL right, holla…I'm not sorry for standing by my mentor. I'm sorry the accusations Rtrue."
The truth shall set you free!
In related news, Scott is prepping her fifth studio album, Woman, led by the sultry new single, "Fools Gold." In addition to the upcoming release, Jilly from Philly will launch a 25-city U.S. summer tour on July 13th in Pittsburgh, PA. The trek will make stops in big cities like Baltimore, NYC (Brooklyn), Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles before wrapping August 28th in Phoenix, AZ.
