The ladies of Mary Mary have always brought contemporary sounds to Gospel, infusing a Christian message over non –traditionally Gospel sounds. One half of the group, Erica Campbell (who struck solo success last year with her album Help), has dropped the video for “I Luh God,” a song from her newest LP, Help 2.0.
The song could be described as “Trap Gospel” as Erica delivers flows about her love of the Lord over a hardcore, trap hip-hop track. “I love God / You don’t love God / What’s wrong with you?” she sings as she rocks fitted caps, sunglasses, and parties with her friends (including her sister Tina, and LaShawn Daniels who co-wrote and co-produced the song).
To all the detractors of this sound, Erica says this is just a side of herself the world doesn’t see. She explained to CNikky.com: “You know I’m from Inglewood, and when I’m just hanging with my girls, I may talk like that. And people are not used to that… But I just wanted to have fun and declare my love for God.”
Turn up for the Lord!
