FOX’s breakout series ‘Empire’ is not only a hit with TV viewers, music lovers are also eating up the content. The soundtrack to season one has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart, beating out music icon Madonna for the No.1 debut.
Led by contributions from cast members Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon), Yazz (Hakeem Lyon), Serayah McNeil (Tiana), Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon), as well as R&B powerhouses Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Estelle, V.Bozeman, and more, the project sold 130,000 copies in its first week, reports Billboard.
“To Everyone Who Purchased The Album I LoveYou So Much!!! We Couldn't Do It Without Yall. #EmpireFam #Blessed,” Yazz wrote on Instagram.
The top-selling debut is also the first TV soundtrack to land at No. 1 since 2010, when three different Glee albums arrived atop the list.
Madonna’s Rebel Heart bows at the second position with 121,000 units sold.
