Should Adrienne Bailon be “scared to fail” if she releases another album?
That’s a warranted feeling, being that the singer-turned-TV personality hasn’t released an album since 2007.
Bailon started her career with R&B girl group 3LW, and then transitioned to The Cheetah Girls, after the popular trio disbanded. The Cheetah Girls released two albums before breaking up as well, which led Bailon to inking a solo record deal. Since her signing, Bailon attempted to release several singles, but none materialized, leading her to put her music career on hold.
During a segment on her talk show, The Real, on Wednesday (Jan. 28), Bailon and her co-hosts fought back tears over a question on why she hasn’t released new music.
“I'm scared to fail. I've had this solo album people that I've been saying is coming out for the last five years,” says an emotional Bailon. “I don’t like the sound of my own voice… and that’s honest. In 3LW, I probably enjoyed the music side more, because it was R&B; it was more of my thing. In Cheetah girls, they praised the fact that I sounded so young, and as a 31-year-old woman, sometimes I hear myself recorded, and I still think I sound really young.”
She continued: “When I finished Cheetah Girls, I got a record deal at Def Jam, and it didn't go the way I thought it was gonna go. Like, there was so much more to music than just what I love about music… I felt like the music business was different than when I got in the game at 16 years old; it was about music, and talent, and singing, and to step out on my own and let my voice be heard, I'm scared…”
Asked by Tamar on why she’s scared, Bailon goes on to say: “What if people don't like it?… What if it's not successful?… I would rather it not come out and just say, 'Well, it just never came out,' than for it come out and be whack.”
The segment finishes with Bailon’s co-host giving her their personal advice on why she shouldn’t be worried about failure.
“You have to fall in love with music. You cannot think about who is gonna buy it, if anybody is gonna like it, you have to love it,” Tamar told Bailon.
The lesson here… be yourself and listen to your heart.

Adrienne Bailon, former member of the girl group 3LW and The Cheetah Girls, recently opened up about her decision to step away from music.

The music industry can be an unforgiving place. It’s a constant battle to stay relevant and maintain success. Taking risks in the music industry is essential for growth and staying relevant. However, it’s also incredibly scary. This fear of failure can be paralyzing and make it difficult for artists to take that leap of faith into uncharted territory.
So, is Adrienne Bailon right to be scared? Absolutely! The music industry is a tough business where success isn’t guaranteed even for talented individuals. The pressures can be overwhelming at times, leading artists like Bailon to second-guess their abilities and choices. The Perception of Failure in the Arts
Imagine the overwhelming fear that grips you when faced with the possibility of not meeting expectations in your artistic pursuits. As an artist, whether it’s a musician, a painter, or a writer, there’s an inherent pressure to succeed and create something that’ll resonate with others.
However, this pressure can also bring about a paralyzing fear of failure. The perception of failure in the arts can be incredibly daunting because it often feels like your entire worth as an artist is tied to the success or failure of your work.
In the world of music, this fear of failure can be particularly prominent. Adrienne Bailon’s statement about being scared to fail resonates with many artists who understand that their creativity is vulnerable to criticism and rejection.

This fear can cause artists to hesitate, second-guess themselves, and even abandon their artistic pursuits altogether.
However, it’s important to remember that failure isn’t inherently negative in the arts. In fact, many successful artists have experienced numerous failures throughout their careers before achieving success. Failure can be seen as an opportunity for growth and learning rather than something to be feared or avoided at all costs.
It’s through taking risks and pushing boundaries that some of the most groundbreaking art has been created. So while Adrienne Bailon may feel scared to fail, it’s crucial for her and other artists alike to embrace the possibility of failure as part of their creative journey.
