After the highly-watched-but-poorly-received Lifetime network film Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, R&B fans are ready to see if the network can redeem themselves with Whitney, the Angela Bassett-directed film about the late vocal powerhouse’s career and how it impacted her relationship with then-husband Bobby Brown.
To amp up buzz about the film, the network has released a clip featuring actress Yaya Dacosta as Whitney in the studio as she records her 1990 hit “I’m Your Baby Tonight” as Babyface (played by Wesley Jonathan) oversees the recording. Deborah Cox supplied the sung vocals for the entire film, as heard in this clip.
Whitney will air on January 17 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
