Back in 1997, some of the industry’s hottest femcees including Da Brat, Missy Elliott, the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Lil Kim, Angie Martinez, and others came together for the video and single “Ladies Night,” from the "Nothing To Lose" soundtrack, which sampled Kool And The Gang’s 1979 hit of the same name.
Since the legendary funk band was honored at this year’s Soul Train Awards, what better time than now was it to get all the ladies together to tribute Kool And The Gang!
Eric Benet opened the performance singing the Gang’s original version, then was joined by Lil Kim with her rap verse of the remake, and Bad Boy Records group Total, who were also in the video. Left Eye’s presence was felt as they played her verse by showing her part of the video. Rapper Da Brat came out with her same high energy she’s known for, then Missy Elliott joined the party, rocking gold-flaked hoodie and matching sneakers.
Other femcees MC Lyte, Lady Of Rage, and Yo Yo joined the stage at the end to round off the lineup. Great reunion!
