R&B singer Shanice and actor/comedian Flex Alexander have received a full season order of "Flex & Shanice."
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced recently that it has given an eight-episode series order to "Flex & Shanice," a weekly one-hour docu-series which follows the lives of husband and wife, actor Flex Alexander ("One on One") and 90s pop singer Shanice ("I Love Your Smile"), and their extended family, all of whom live together under one roof.
The series will join the network's Saturday night programming lineup this fall.
A special sneak preview of the docu-series (Saturday, May 31 at 10 p.m.) delivered double-digit growth (+25%) in the network's key women 25-54 demo in the time period vs. one year ago. The special was also the night's #1 cable telecast (non-sports) for African-American women 25-54 and 18-49.
"Most people know 90s pop sensation Shanice for her Grammy-nominated hit song, "I Love Your Smile" and actor Flex Alexander from his hit TV show, "One on One," but few people know this fairytale couple both faced career stumbling blocks and quickly hit financial rock bottom. Flex and Shanice realized that they needed to take their wedding vow "for richer or poorer" to heart, so with their two adorable kids, 12-year-old Imani and 10-year-old Elijah, in tow, they moved into a rental home and brought their hilarious extended family into the mix to help cover the cost. A total of nine people, including Shanice's "momager" Crystal, make this truly a full house where anyone's business becomes everyone's business," reports OWN.
The series joins OWN's popular Saturday night line-up, which includes the series "Iyanla: Fix My Life," "Six Little McGhees," "Deion's Family Playbook," "Life with La Toya," "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" and "Raising Whitley." OWN is consistently among the top networks for African-American women on Saturday night.
"Saturday nights on OWN have become the place to be for viewers seeking great family entertainment, and we are pleased to share the newest members of our family with our audience," said Sheri Salata, president, OWN. "Flex, Shanice and their big, loud, loving brood are not unlike many families today who have combined resources in order to get through some tough times. Seeing how their love, laughter, and enduring faith in one another makes even the most challenging of days worthwhile is both entertaining and inspiring. We think our viewers are really going to connect with them."
