Talk about being a boss!
It the music industry, it’s always been a huge accomplishment for an artist to own his/or her own music, so Prince has taken his music into his own hands by founding NPG Music Publishing.
Separating himself from Universal Music Group, who has held his music under their control for 20 years, the music legend formed NPG a month ago to house his entire catalog. His hits such as “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Let's Go Crazy,” “U Got the Look,” “Purple Rain,” and “Diamonds and Pearls,” are all included in NPG’s catalog. His newest single with singer-actress Zooey Deschanel, "FALLINLOVE2NITE,” is also a part of the new catalog.
NPG "was founded by Artists for Artists. The team will be led by some of the best talent in the industry," says a press release, which also states the newly-established company is currently looking to place the Purple One’s hits in film, television, video games and commercials.
Now, as he preps a forthcoming project, Plectrumelectrum, we'll hear more of his music in other mediums, too…Great business move!
