Pharrell’s current successful run landed him a nomination at the 2014 Oscars for his contribution to the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack with the smash hit “Happy,” and the songwriter/producer performed the tune last night (March 2) at the live ceremony.
Surrounded by a barrage of colorful, diverse dancers mimicking the fun video, Rell took charge of both the stage and audience so well that he got Oscar-winning actress Lupito Nyongo on her feet, and even got Oscar royalty Meryl Streep to shimmy! Also for the black tie occasion, Pharrell broke out the black version of “the hat”: over a month ago, the Grammy’s saw the first brown version of the infamous hat, and his performance at the NBA All-Star game only a week ago gave us its red cousin.
