Last night’s (Jan 26.) edition of the Singersroom sponsored R&B Spotlight was pandemonium to say the least. Held at S.O.B.s in New York City, the event featured an all-female line-up (Patricia Mytime, Lydia Caesar, Shadina, Suzy Q and Phoenix) with Day26 performing as our special guest.
Hosted by founder Cory Taylor, singer Lydia Caesar, and Singersroom’s founder Gary Gentles, fans were treated to a special night of soul-stirring R&B coupled with great vibes and good people. While all five ladies had the house rocking, it was the former Bad Boy and MTV Making The Band group that sent event-goers into a frenzy.
Day26's coming out party was “epic,” as one fan corrected my use of “magical” as I conducted an onstage Q&A with the group following their performance. The event served as their first show together since announcing their reunion with all five original members with plans to tour in 2014. Robert Curry, Brian Angel, Willie Taylor, Anthony “Que” Mosley, and Michael McCluney performed hits like “Got Me Going” and “Imma Put It On Her” before telling fans this reunion is all because of their consistency and efforts as supporters.
Also in the building were our friends Lenny Green of NY’s 107.5 WBLS and Tom of YouknowIgotsoul.com.
As we continue to support Grassroots talents, R&B Spotlight pledges to celebrate the melodic sounds of your favorite national and local R&B talents. Over the years, Chart-topping superstars have headlined shows including Carl Thomas, R.L. of 90’s R&B group, Next; Meelah of 702, Kenny Lattimore, Musiq Soul Child, Marsha Ambrosius, Mario Winans, and Sisqo, lead singer of multi-platinum group Dru Hill.
