TLC is back in the studio working on a new album and though that is major news for Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, it's somewhat surprising that they have re-entered into a deal with L.A. Reid.
Following a tumultuous relationship with Reid and Pebbles, covered in Monday's premiere of "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story," TLC and their manager know their forthcoming new album is a risk, but say "It's a new day."
"You’re always going to disagree about something. It’s a damn record label and he was running it. Of course you’re going to have ups and downs. And just like anybody else, we cuss him out when need be," T-Boz told The Los Angeles Times. "But it feels natural, like home. It’s a new day and time. We’re putting LaFace back on the map — again."
Noting that "the stakes are high," TLC manager Bill Diggins says they won't settle for anything but the best this time out.
"Everybody knows the stakes are high," said Diggins. "We all have a lot to lose on this. If we can’t do excellent, let’s not do it. We’re not gonna settle for mediocrity. You give me one hit with TLC and it’s all over."
Thus far TLC has worked with Dallas Austin, Lady Gaga and Ne-Yo. They hope to also work with Drake and 2 Chainz.
"We’re back on the train now, and just going. This movie has opened so many doors for us. We have a new record deal. We’re back with L.A. Reid. It’s amazing how everything is falling into place. We’re just ready for the ride," says Chilli.
