Legendary R&B singer Patti Labelle and artist, actress and talk show host Queen Latifah are among the group of black women to be recognized on the upcoming Black Girls Rock! awards show on BET. Labelle will receive the Living Legend Award while Latifah will garner the Rock Star plaque.

In addition, tennis star Venus Williams, writer and producer Mara Brock Akil, social activist Ameena Matthews, and children’s activist Marian Wright Edelman will also receive honors.

"Each of the women, whom we are celebrating this year, epitomize the champion’s spirit as applicable to their respective fields," says Founder Beverly Bond. "They are anchored by a fierce commitment to their craft or cause; they have shown the ability to navigate multiple sectors and industries successfully; and they are conscious about the role they play in enriching our society and culture. They absolutely Rock!"

Hosted again this year by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, the show will tape on Saturday, October 26 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, N.J and will air on BET on Sunday, November 3 at 7pm.

Black Girls Rock! is a nonprofit organization that mentors young black girls and works to fight negative images of black women in the media.

Well get excited, because Patti Labelle and Queen Latifah are set to receive Black Girls Rock! Honors this year. These awards recognize their incredible contributions to music, film, and television – as well as their unwavering commitment to empowering black girls and women everywhere.

Patti Labelle is a true icon in the world of soul music. With hits like ‘Lady Marmalade’and ‘On My Own,’she has inspired generations with her powerful voice and uplifting lyrics. But her influence extends far beyond just music – she’s also an advocate for diabetes awareness (having been diagnosed with the disease herself) and a philanthropist who has donated millions to various charitable causes. And of course, let’s not forget her legendary cooking skills – she even has her own line of sweet potato pies!

It’s clear that Labelle is more than deserving of this honor, which recognizes not only her talent but also her dedication to making the world a better place.

Patti Labelle: A Legacy of Soul and Inspiration

You’re gonna feel the power of Patti Labelle’s soulful voice as you listen to her music and imagine yourself swaying to the beat. With a career spanning over five decades, Patti Labelle has become an icon in the music industry. Her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence have earned her numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards and induction into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame.

Not only is Labelle’s music inspiring, but so is her personal story. She grew up in poverty in Philadelphia and faced discrimination as a black woman in the entertainment industry during the 1960s and 1970s. Despite these challenges, she persevered and became one of the most successful singers of her generation.

She also uses her platform to advocate for social justice issues such as HIV/AIDS awareness. Labelle’s legacy extends beyond just music; she has also authored several cookbooks and starred in various television shows and movies. Her impact on popular culture cannot be denied, making it no surprise that she will be honored at this year’s Black Girls Rock! event.

It is a testament to her talent, resilience, and unwavering commitment to empowering others through artistry.

Queen Latifah: A Trailblazer in Music and Film

Don’t miss out on the chance to learn about a true trailblazer in both music and film! Queen Latifah has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes along the way.

Born Dana Owens in Newark, New Jersey, Queen Latifah began her career as a rapper, releasing her debut album ‘All Hail the Queen’ in 1989. But it wasn’t just her music that made Queen Latifah stand out – she also starred in several films, including ‘Set It Off’ and ‘Chicago,’ for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In addition to acting and rapping, Queen Latifah has also hosted her own talk show and served as a spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics. Queen Latifah’s impact extends far beyond her own success – she has paved the way for other women of color in entertainment.

She once said, ‘I want to be able to look back and say, ‘I did everything I could.’ I was a hustler when I was little. I’m still a hustler. And like they say, ‘Hustlers don’t stop; they keep going.’ With this attitude, there’s no doubt that Queen Latifah will continue to inspire future generations of artists and entertainers alike.
