Day26's two week reign was ended this week by Demetria McKinney. The "House of Payne" actress foray into music has been in the making for several years; McKinney released "Get Your…Ish" in 2011. Don't label her an actress turned singer because music has been a constant passion in her life.
This week she shipped out "Work With Me", the official lead single from her forthcoming EP 'Officially Yours'. On the airy ballad, Demetria harshly lays her flaws on the line and shows appreciation for the man who accepts her imperfections, insisting, "please work with me."
The new track is the follow-up to "Still Believe in Love", a duet with Musiq Soulchild, which may be placed on the upcoming project.
In the second position on Singersroom's Indie Rotation chart is a man who has been absent since releasing his debut solo album in 2009. Marcus Cooper (aka Pleasure P) can always be found on Twitter or in Miami, but now his voice can be found on the new MP3 entitled "Kiss Me." He varied away from typical R&B instrumentation for a romantic reggae riddim suitable for an island rendezvous. Mr. Cooper hopes to spread a simple message: "Give that person you love a kiss, tell them that you love them forever."
R&B Diva's like most reality television shows is built on drama, and the smart cast members take advantage of attention to push their career agenda. Lil Mo is no different; now that her name has been on people’s minds she drops the perfectly titled track "I'm A Diva." The self-proclaimed Godmother of Hip Hop and R&B self-confidence is reassured on the sassy cut.
The artists that round out the top independent singles of the week are Senze, Orlando Dixon, J. Holiday, Planet IV, Olivia, Yamisse and Candice Nicole.
