As the buzz surrounding Chris Brown's new Aaliyah-assisted single "They Don’t Know" grows, the jig is up about where those angelic vocal samples came from. The answer lies in an unreleased song called “Don’t Think They Know” the late singer did with Digital Black, former member of the 90s group Playa.
Our friends at YouKnowIGotSoul.com had the chance to talk to the Playa group member, who said the original song was recorded as she was filming Queen of the Damned. “Just knowing her and being around her, I just tried to write a record to let the fans know that we would do this thing for free because it’s an honor for people to appreciate our music,” he said. When it comes to Breezy’s version, he likes it, and is glad to see Playa’s music still making waves. (Drake sampled a Youtube clip of a jam session between Playa’s Smoke E. Digglera and Static Major for "Look What You've Done," a cut from his Take Care album.) “I guess our legacy is still being written. I’m just enjoying my view right now. I mean come on man, Chris Brown and Drake listen to our music. I wish Static was here to see it.”
