Raheem DeVaughn is gearing up for the release of his fourth studio album, A Place Called Loveland, due out this summer. Led by the first single, "Love Connection," the upcoming opus will boast production from frequent collaborators Carvin & Ivan as well as Mario Winans, and more. Singersoom recently sat down with the R&B Neo-Soul Hippie Rockstar to discuss the upcoming effort.
Below are some snippets from the above video:
New Album: The album is definitely very sensual, I'm in a very sensual place right now musically..I like to kind of make you use your imagination vividly a little bit. "Love connection" is the first single, the prelude to the whole thing; I think we're definitely off to a great start.
Going Back to Love: Right now I'm back to love. This album will be a relationship thinktank…I just wanna take people on an eclectic ride, eargasmic-wise and let them enjoy it. Just trying to create a body of work that they can throw on and listen from beginning to end.
Understanding Love: I think in hindsight I'm still trying to figure out what love actually is; the concept of it. What it means not to be selfish, what it means to be giving, what it means to be a communicator, all of these things, the pressures that come with relationships and love. I put on my track shoes a few times. Ultimately, as artists, we have a gift, and my gift is bringing people together.
R&B Influencers: I think the album that Justin Timberlake put out recently is great for music, it's very soulful, it's very influenced by soul, it's very influenced by R&B, live instrumentation…I think it's great when an artist of his caliber comes out and stays true to the art of what it is he's passionate about and loves.
Possible Future Collaboration With a Rapper: Me and Snoop Lion have been working on a project going on two years now; we have a lot of songs recorded together. It's soulful, it's timeless, it's organic, it's musical; I'm looking forward to the world hearing that music. I would love to get an album in with Ghostface [Killah].
Expectation: You should be excited, this is what you've been waiting for…A Place Called Loveland will be some of my best work to date, I put a lot of hard work into it, and I hope as everything unfolds, it's a reflection of that.
