R&B, soul and Gospel artists led the pack of winners at the 44th Annual NAACP Image Awards Friday night.
Whitney Houston received two posthumous honors including Outstanding Album ("I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston") and Outstanding Song ("I Look To You" ft. R. Kelly).
Alicia Keys tied with two awards in the fields of Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Music Video ("Girl On Fire").
Primarily focused on film and television during the televised portion of the awards, the NAACP Image Awards lacked performances this year, baring a spirited tribute from Gladys Knight, remembering those we lost last year. Wyclef Jean and Common also took the stage to perform a tribute in honor of Harry Belafonte.
"Perfectly Imperfect" breakthrough artist Elle Varner also won big, picking up Outstanding New Artist.
In Gospel, Mary Mary won both Outstanding Gospel Album and Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration.
