Legendary singer, Tina Turner, may turn in her U.S. passport in order to become a Swiss citizen according to reports.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here," Turner told the German newspaper, Blick. "I cannot imagine a better place to live."

The "What's Love Got to Do with It" hit-maker, 73, is a Tennessee native, but has lived in Zurich since 1995. She is awaiting an approval confirmation from the Swiss federal and state authorities.

"Tina Turner will therefore also give back her U.S. citizenship," her rep told Swiss newspaper Zuerichee-Zeitung.

Tina Turner released her last studio album, 'Twenty Four Seven,' in 1999, which landed atop of the Swiss Album Chart.

With her career spanning six decades, Tina Turner is no stranger to fame and success. But now, after achieving so much in the U.S., she’s ready to do something a little unexpected: surrender her American citizenship. It’s a surprising move that will give her more freedom than ever before – but how has it come about? In this article, we’ll explore why Tina Turner decided to make this bold decision and what it means for her future.

The Queen of Rock and Roll first gained worldwide attention with hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “River Deep Mountain High” back in the 1970s. Since then, she has gone on to win 8 Grammy Awards throughout her illustrious career. Now, at 79 years old, Tina Turner is still making waves around the world – only this time it’s for an entirely different reason.

As one of America’s most beloved singing stars, Tina Turner’s choice to renounce her US citizenship comes as quite a shock. What could be causing such a legendary figure to take such drastic action? Read on to find out all about why Tina Turner has chosen to leave behind her country of birth – and what kind of life awaits her outside of the USA!

Background And History Of Tina Turner

Tina Turner is an iconic singer and entertainer, whose career has spanned over five decades. She was born in Nutbush, Tennessee on November 26th 1939 as Anna Mae Bullock. As a child she sang gospel music with her family, eventually leading to her becoming the lead singer of Ike & Tina Turner Revue in 1960. From there, she went on to have major success with multiple hit singles such as “Proud Mary” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”

By the mid-1980s Tina had become one of the world’s most successful female singers and entered into a period of semi-retirement. In 1996, she released the album Wildest Dreams which featured collaborations with musical greats like Tom Jones and Bryan Adams. The album met critical acclaim and marked her return to mainstream pop/rock music after almost 20 years away from it.

In 2013 at age 73, it was announced that Tina would be handing back her U.S citizenship in order to gain Swiss nationality instead – something she had been attempting since 2008 due to various personal reasons. This move generated much discussion around the concept of dual citizenships; however, despite being a large part of American culture for many years now, it remains largely controversial within some circles today.

Reasons Behind Her Decision To Relinquish U.S. Citizenship

Tina Turner’s decision to relinquish her U.S citizenship caused much speculation, as many wondered why she would give up such a large part of her identity and cultural heritage. It was speculated that the reasons behind this move were both personal and financial.

First of all, Tina had been living in Switzerland since 1995 with her partner Erwin Bach – who is Swiss himself – making it their permanent home base for some time now. The couple also got married there in 2013, just two weeks before Tina handed back her American passport and gained dual Swiss-American nationality instead. This suggests that Tina has fully embraced life in Switzerland over the past two decades; thus, one reason behind her choice could be wanting to settle down permanently in the country she loves so dearly.

Additionally, due to being an international celebrity with worldwide success it can sometimes be difficult for high earners like Tina to pay taxes across multiple countries when they have money coming from various sources (e.g royalties). As a result, by becoming a Swiss citizen Tina no longer needs to worry about having any tax liabilities towards the US anymore either – meaning she’ll only ever need to pay taxes within Switzerland itself.

Ultimately then what we can take away from this case study is that people’s decisions around travelling or settling abroad are often motivated by numerous different factors – not always connected with economics or politics but rather personal desires too.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Tina Turner’s decision to surrender her U.S. citizenship is an inspiring example of how one can take their future into their own hands and follow the path that best suits them. Her choice was inspired by a desire for greater freedom and security as well as a deep appreciation for Switzerland and its people. It has been over four decades since she first moved abroad, but it seems this iconic singer-songwriter still values her independence above all else.

Tina’s story serves as a reminder that we should never be afraid to make changes in our lives when we feel that something isn’t quite right. We have the power to create our own destinies if we take risks, stay true to ourselves, and remain open minded about the possibilities around us. With courage and determination, anything is achievable – even relinquishing your citizenship in pursuit of a better life.

Tina Turner may no longer call herself an American citizen, but she will forever be remembered for her remarkable achievements on stage and offstage alike. Let us hope that more people are emboldened by her journey so they too can find happiness wherever life takes them!
