The Weeknd has given his first TV performance and UK’s Jools Holland got dibs. The show aired on BBC Two Monday night.
It can be argued that Abel Tesfaye, whose stage name is The Weeknd, has a voice as addictive as the vices he sings about. He performed “Wicked Games” for Holland’s audience and was accompanied by a live band and two female background singers.
Outside of the band, the performance was simple, composed of a mic and a young man who knows he doesn’t have to move around the stage to get the crowd to pay attention. There were no smoke and mirrors, just music. He was even dressed in an average way: just a T-shirt, jacket and some jeans. But when you sound like he does, who cares what you’re wearing?
Tesfaye released his newest album ‘Trilogy’ earlier this month and will be performing on the Power 106’s Cali Christmas in Universal City, California Dec. 14.
