As Melanie Amaro amps up for her upcoming debut album “Truly,” the X-Factor winner made an appearance last weekend at the 18th Annual Intercontinental Miami Make-A-Wish Foundation Ball as the event’s headlining entertainment, and also to show her support for the cause. “Being able to grant kids’ wishes is just amazing, I think me here supporting is just big,” Amaro told CY Interview’s Chris Yandek on the red carpet. Before paying tribute to Whitney Houston during her set (which included a cover of Houston’s hit “I Have Nothing,” a fan favorite performance from her X-Factor stint; see below), she also dished on life after her X-Factor win and working with Elton John.
“Now I get noticed a whole lot and there’s a lot more going on in my life right now. I get to do what I love every day. So it’s definitely been a big change for me for the best,” she said.
As proof of her rising success, Amaro has been rubbing elbows with legends such as Sir Elton John. She was featured in a Pepsi commercial with the legend during the 2012 Superbowl, and revealed what the experience was like to work with Elton. “He is definitely someone that I think is humongous in my book. I mean he sold millions of albums. So I definitely feel like I can learn a lot from him and I did. I took a lot, you know, from him while shooting the commercial,” she told Chris.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation Ball gala raised over $1.6 million.
“Truly” is set to drop on December 4th.
