The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards may have been among the least watched broadcasts in recent years, but that had little to no bearing on performers and sales. According to Billboard, acts including Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys have received boosts in sales following the show.
As reflected on this week’s chart update, Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ About You” arrives at no.29 on the Digital Songs chart on the strength of 55,000 copies being sold.
Following his performance of “Thinkin About You” on the VMAs, Ocean’s album “Channel Orange” has seen an increase in sales too. With 14,000 in new sales, the album is up 45-21 on the albums chart.
In related news, Alicia Keys had a strong debut with “Girl On Fire.”
Performed during the MTV Video Music Awards last Thursday, “Girl On Fire” debuts at no.12 on the Digital Songs chart with 92,000 copies sold.
VMA opener Rihanna also gained with Video of the Year winning “We Found Love” selling 22,000 copies.
The MTV Video Music Awards were watched by just over 6 million viewers last Thursday, September 6.

Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys are two of the most well-known singers in modern music. Recently, both artists have seen a boost in sales thanks to their performances at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). In only one week, album streams for both stars experienced an enormous increase, proving that their presence made a huge impact on viewers. This article will explore how Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys achieved such remarkable success after appearing at the VMAs.

The VMAs is one of the biggest events in television every year. As millions of people around the world tune in, it provides great exposure for any artist performing there. This year was no exception as performers like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga took to the stage – but none were quite as powerful or moving as Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys’ performances.

Both artists delivered stellar sets which had everyone talking following the show. Even more impressive than their vocal talents was what happened afterwards: fans rushed out to buy albums from both artists resulting in a significant spike in sales numbers. We’ll take a look at just how much these two renowned singers gained from taking part in this year’s VMAs.

Artists’ Music Reception

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) is often seen as a platform for artists to showcase and promote their music. This year, two of the biggest winners were Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys – both of whom saw an increase in sales following their performances at the awards show.

Frank Ocean won four VMAs, including Best R&B video and Video Of The Year for his song “Pyramids”. His album Channel Orange was released shortly after the award show, which helped boost its success. In addition to increased digital downloads, physical copies of the album also sold out across multiple retailers within days of its release date.

Alicia Keys’ performance of her single “Girl On Fire” gained momentum not only from viewers who tuned into VMA’s but also those that heard it on radio stations around the world. Following the performance and coverage by mainstream media outlets, digital singles sales skyrocketed as well as demand for physical albums containing the hit single.

It’s clear that these artists have taken advantage of this stage to gain more recognition amongst fans and new listeners alike- evidence that they continue to be relevant in today’s musical landscape.

Impact On Chart Performance

The impact of the VMA performances on both Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys’ chart performance has been undeniable. As mentioned, physical copies of Channel Orange sold out shortly after its release date, while digital downloads skyrocketed in response to their respective singles. This helped propel them higher up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with “Pyramids” reaching number 6 and “Girl On Fire” peaking at number 11.

Not only have these two artists seen success in terms of sales and chart position, but they’ve also gained a larger fan base due to their VMAs exposure. The awards show has enabled them to reach more people than ever before, helping spread awareness of their music worldwide. Fans from all over have shown appreciation for both musicians’ work which is further reflected by increased streams and views on streaming platforms like YouTube and Apple Music.

Overall, it’s clear that the VMA stage has allowed Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys to gain immense recognition amongst fans old and new alike- showcasing just how powerful an influence the awards ceremony can be when it comes to advancing an artist’s career.

Conclusion

The success of Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys at the VMAs is undeniable. The pair’s performances have clearly resonated with viewers, as their tracks experienced a huge sales boost after the award show. This surge in popularity is reflected in the charts, where both artists now occupy strong positions near the top.

It’s clear that Frank Ocean and Alicia Keys’ Grammy-winning work has not gone unnoticed by fans – even those who may be unfamiliar with their music. Their presence on the VMA stage was evidently enough to earn them new followers and listeners worldwide, which will undoubtedly benefit their careers going forward.

Overall, it’s been an impressive performance from these two musicians, earning them well-deserved recognition for all of their hard work. It goes to show how much influence one night can have on an artist’s future prospects – something we should keep in mind when watching awards shows like this!
