RL Revamps New Album, Talks NEXT Return and Sexuality in Music

Last year singer/songwriter RL, best known for his work with chart-topping group NEXT, was working heavily on a solo album. Following the leak of several tracks, the “Too Close” and “Pain” singer has scrapped that project in favor of new music.
“I re-did the whole thing,” RL confirmed in an interview Tuesday night. “Some of the records got leaked.”
Following work “behind the scenes,” including writing records for Mindless Behavior, RL is continuing work on his solo album and a brand new album for NEXT at this time.
“I’ve been behind the scenes for a while but now I’m back working on my project as well as the group’s,” RL told the Nikki Rich Show. “I just want to keep it sexy and grown.”
While RL is focused on keeping his forthcoming material mature, he did break down his thoughts on sexuality in music and the state of the industry as well. Claiming less focus should be placed on gender, sexuality, or even weight, RL believes people really need to focus on talent.
“If you are genuinely yourself, you will be successful,” RL said noting talent like Cee Lo and Adele who are simply “authentic unbridled talent.”
According to RL, Adele proves there is no “blueprint” or perfect recording artist.
“It shows you there is no blueprint. There is no perfect artist. I don’t care what your weight is. I don’t care what your gender is or your sexual orientation is. If you have talent, look at Adam Lambert. He’s just straight up ‘I’m a gay man, but I’m rocking. So what, buy my album’ and they (people) do,” says RL. “People are worried about the wrong things.”
Taking it a step further, RL says “music is music.”
“I feel like music is music. I think we classify things too much,” says RL. “I think there are artists who are searching for themselves and that’s on them. A lot of albums aren’t working because they’re not being authentic. All of a sudden they (fans) press play and it’s something totally different.”

RL, the lead singer of NEXT, has been on hiatus since 2016. With a new album and tour coming up, his fans have waited with bated breath to see what he would do next. Now, after four years away from music, RL is making his grand return. He’s revamping an old classic for his upcoming record and talking about sexuality in music. In this article, we’ll explore how RL is shaking things up musically and personally as he prepares to make waves in the industry once again.

RL burst onto the scene with 1990s R&B group NEXT, whose hit single “Too Close” was a massive success worldwide. Throughout their career, they sold millions of albums and toured around the world. After taking a break from music in 2016, however, it seemed like there might not be any more records or performances from RL or NEXT ever again — until now!

In anticipation of his comeback album release later this year, RL recently debuted a revamped version of one of NEXT’s biggest singles at last month’s Grammy Awards ceremony. The performance received rave reviews and sent shockwaves throughout the entire industry; news spread quickly that RL had returned to create something incredible yet again. Alongside discussing his musical plans for the future, he also opened up about sexuality in music during several interviews leading up to the show – which only added fuel to an already blazing fire surrounding him right now!

Rl’s Musical Journey

RL, formerly known as R&B singer and songwriter Ralph Tresvant, has been on a remarkable journey since his debut album released in 1990. His sound has evolved over the years, from early 90s New Jack Swing to a much more mature and soulful approach today. He’s had multiple hits throughout the years that have set him apart from other artists in the genre and he’s always stayed true to himself while achieving success.

Now with his latest release, RL is taking things one step further by reimagining some of his old songs and incorporating elements of contemporary music into them. This new direction not only reflects RL’s evolving musical style but also speaks to an audience who may be unfamiliar with his older material. It’s clear that he still remains committed to creating timeless music that resonates with people across generations.

When asked about what inspired this project and how it felt to revisit these classic tracks, RL replied: “I wanted for my fans – both old & new – to experience something fresh yet nostalgic at the same time; I wanted people to connect with my past work but also feel excited about where I’m headed next musically.” With regards to his plans after releasing this album, RL indicated he’s already working on some exciting projects which will showcase different aspects of his artistry. Additionally, he opened up about embracing sexuality within music industry and how liberating it can be for all involved.

Exploration Of Gender And Sexuality In Music

Throughout his career, RL has always been candid about exploring gender and sexuality in music. He takes a thoughtful approach to this topic, understanding that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. In an interview, he said “I think it’s important that we all have the freedom to express ourselves authentically without fear of judgement or repercussions; I’m proud to be part of a movement that is making sure our voices are being heard.” From embracing his own queerness to working with other LGBTQ+ artists on collaborations, RL shows true commitment to creating spaces where self-expression can flourish.

At the same time, RL also recognizes the importance of respecting boundaries when discussing sexual topics in music. He believes that while these conversations should happen, they shouldn’t be forced upon anyone who isn’t comfortable with them: “It’s essential that we respect people’s individual preferences and wishes – if someone doesn’t want to talk about something then it’s not ok for us to pressure them into doing so”. With this attitude at the forefront of his work, RL continues to push musical boundaries by normalizing discussions around sex and gender diversity.

RL appears determined to carry forward this message through future projects too, as he looks ahead towards returning with new material soon: “My next release will definitely include explorations into different aspects of my identity and I’m excited for what lies ahead!”

Conclusion

In conclusion, RL’s journey in music has been one of exploration and growth. From their early sound to their latest album, they have consistently pushed boundaries and explored the power of gender and sexuality in music. With a career that spans almost two decades, it is clear that RL knows exactly what they want out of their artistry — an expression of self that both empowers them and connects with listeners on a profound level. Through all the changes over time, whether it be sound or identity, RL continues to stay true to who they are as an artist. As we look forward to whatever comes next from this groundbreaking musician, there is no doubt that it will continue to challenge conventions while also remaining deeply personal. I am excited for what lies ahead for RL as they continue pushing the envelope with each new release.
