As pioneering hip-hop group The Roots rocked Independence Day at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia at the Fourth of July Jam, the evening somehow got even more electrifying (as if that was possible) when the lead vocalist for the group Black Thought introduced Lauryn Hill to a surprised and hyped crowd.
Donning a white dress and red platform boots, the beloved singer gave passionate performances of hits that included “Ex-Factor,” “Ready or Not,” and “Doo-Wop (That Thing).” Not one lapse in energy occurred as the singer took command of the whole stage, the-show-instead-of-tell way to silence the critics; a performance to make one forget the looming tax woes Hill currently faces.
Others who performed at the Philly 4th of July Jam included Joe Jonas, Queen Latifah, and Common.
