Nicki Minaj and Adele are two of this year’s most successful recording artists, at least when it comes to digital singles.
Following fun and Janelle Monae’s hit single “We Are Young,” which is the second best selling digital song of the year (5.087 million, thus far), Minaj and Adele have three of the top 20 selling songs for the first half of 2012.
“Starships,” Nicki Minaj’s pop driven single, comes in at no.5 on the list with 3.158 million digital copies sold. It is not her only track on the list either. Her collaboration with David Guetta, on “Turn Me On,” comes in at no.17 with over 1.87 million copies sold.
While Adele continues to have the no.1 selling album of the year, her singles did not fare as well. “Set Fire To The Rain” is her best selling single according to Billboard, moving over 2.53 million copies. To be fair, Adele’s “21” was released over a year ago.
Despite there being a strong list of best selling songs, with Best New Artist Grammy Award winner Gotye selling over 5.5 million copies of the single “Somebody That I Used to Know,” R&B is non existent on the chart. There are no best selling songs from artists with recent releases including Usher, Chris Brown, Monica, or even Rihanna. Hip Hop artists like Tyga, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg and Drake did make the cut exceeding sales of 1.6 million on their singles.
Are we not supporting R&B recording artists this year ?

The mid-year singles chart for 2020 is out, and it looks like three of the biggest names in music have come out on top! Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj and Adele have all made appearances in this year’s list with their incredible hits. Taking a closer look at each artist reveals just why they’ve earned their spots atop the charts.

Janelle Monae has been dominating since her debut album The ArchAndroid dropped back in 2010. Since then she’s captivated audiences with her energetic performances and stunning sense of fashion. Her single ‘Turntables’ was released earlier this year to critical acclaim and highlights how far she’s come as an artist.

Nicki Minaj has long been a powerhouse not only in hip-hop but also pop culture as a whole. She continues to challenge societal norms both musically and visually with her boundary pushing style that always keeps fans guessing what she’ll do next. Her most recent single ‘Yikes’, part of her fifth studio album Megatron, was another success story for the rapper who never fails to impress.

Adele needs no introduction – ever since bursting onto the scene over ten years ago now she hasn’t looked back once! Her latest hit ‘Hello’ showed us just how much talent this woman truly has and cemented her place as one of the world’s greatest singers today. Following up with ‘When We Were Young’ further proved that there are few artists that can match Adele when it comes to emotional ballads.

Breakdown Of Singles

The midyear singles chart is here and it’s full of surprises! Artists such as Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj, and Adele have all made the top ten list. This year has been one for the books when it comes to music releases – there’s something for everyone. Let’s take a look at what these three artists have put out this past six months that helped them reach the top spots on the chart.

Janelle Monae released her much-anticipated album Dirty Computer in April of 2018 to huge success. The lead single “Pynk” was an instant hit with its infectious beats and catchy chorus. It wasn’t long before fans were singing along to her other singles like “Make Me Feel,” which received critical acclaim from critics worldwide. Her musical style combines elements of funk, soul, and R&B, creating songs that are both upbeat and meaningful – no wonder she topped the charts!

Nicki Minaj followed up her 2017 album Queen with two new singles: “Chun Li” and “Bed.” Both tracks showcase her signature rapping style over heavy instrumentals, making it hard not to get lost in their energy. Fans were quick to gravitate towards these two tracks due to their intense lyrics and clever wordplay; they’ve definitely kept listeners dancing since they dropped earlier this summer.

Adele also had a major presence on the midyear singles chart with her smash hit “Hello” off of 25. It instantly became a global phenomenon after being released in October 2015 — five years later we’re still belting out those powerful lyrics every time it plays! Her vocal performance is nothing short of breathtaking as she sings about regretful memories mixed with hope for brighter days ahead; no wonder why it remains a fan favorite today.

It’s clear that Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj, and Adele have created some amazing music in the first half of 2018 – so much so that each artist managed to make the top 10 list on the midyear singles chart! Their unique sounds combined with captivating lyrics keep us coming back for more – proving once again why they continue to be some of our favorite artists in music today.

Analysis Of Music Styles

It’s no surprise that Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj and Adele have dominated the midyear singles chart – each artist brings a different style of music to the table. From soulful ballads to rap bangers, these three artists represent some of the best in contemporary music today. Let’s break down their individual styles so we can better understand why they’re at the top of their game right now.

Janelle Monae is known for her blend of funk, soul and R&B – something she calls “futuristic soul.” This genre incorporates elements from all three genres while keeping an upbeat tempo throughout; it’s almost impossible not to dance when one of her songs comes on! Her lyrics are often highly political or personal, which makes them even more powerful as listeners relate directly with what she’s singing about.

As for Nicki Minaj, she excels in hip-hop and rap music – both lyrically and instrumentally. She has created a unique style for herself by combining catchy hooks with trap beats and aggressive flows; this combination gives her tracks an undeniable energy that resonates with fans worldwide. Plus, her clever wordplay never fails to keep us engaged with every song she releases.

Finally, there’s Adele who specializes in melodic pop ballads. Each track conveys a raw emotion through its heartfelt lyrics while being backed up by gentle piano chords or strings – it always leaves us feeling moved after listening! It’s clear how much care goes into creating her songs as everything seems perfectly placed; this attention to detail is part of what makes them so successful today.

Overall, Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj and Adele bring something special to the world of music through their own individual styles. Whether you’re looking for something upbeat or reflective, these artists will certainly deliver – that’s probably why they’ve made it onto the mid year singles chart!

Conclusion

In conclusion, it’s clear that Janelle Monae, Nicki Minaj and Adele were the top singles for mid-year 2020. Their distinctive styles have earned them a place at the top of the music charts, proving their appeal to all types of audiences.

Janelle Monae’s soulful singing style is reminiscent of old school rhythm and blues while her lyrics are relevant to today’s society. This makes her music both timeless and modern. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj brings an energetic rap delivery together with engaging melodies to create club bangers that people can’t help but dance to. Finally, Adele has always been known for her powerful ballads full of emotion which connect with fans on a deep level.

Overall, these three artists represent different aspects of popular music in 2020, showing how there really is something for everyone out there – no matter what your taste in music may be!
