Newcomer The Weeknd Slams Common’s Drake Diss

Singer-songwriter The Weeknd took his fellow Canadian friend Drake’s side in his rap spat against Common by basically calling Common’s recent comeback diss track wack.

“That was the worst comeback I’ve ever heard. Reminds me of someone’s drunk uncle..,” The Emo&B wave singer wrote on Twitter in regards to Common’s raw “Stay Schemin” remix.

These days, The Weeknd is one of Drake’s closes compadres, making up the ‘XO’ part of Drizzy’s extended rap family ‘OVOXO.’

The Weeknd is to release a “Balloon Trilogy” very soon. For those that have followed Drake’s prodige, the release will be a compilation of “House of Balloons,” “Thursday” and new release “Echoes of Silence.”

The Weeknd is the newest artist to enter the rap game, and he’s already making waves. With a response to Common’s diss track aimed at Drake, it looks like the Canadian singer-songwriter isn’t afraid of any beef. His first rebuttal has everyone talking about what could be next.

The tension between Common and Drake has been growing over recent months with barbs thrown back and forth in both directions. But when Common released his latest single “Sweet”, which contained some pointed jabs at Drake, one rapper was noticeably absent from responding: until now!

Enter The Weeknd – whose debut album recently went platinum – who surprisingly entered the fray by releasing a scathing reply to Common’s song. He didn’t hold back on this one, taking shots at everything from Common’s age to his lack of relevance in today’s music industry. It definitely got people talking!

Background Of The Conflict

The beef between Common and Drake has been simmering for years, with the two rappers trading barbs back and forth. Recently, however, it’s escalated to a whole new level when Common released his latest diss track directly aimed at Drake. The song was met with mixed reactions from fans of both artists – some were thrilled to hear such an iconic rapper going after one of hip hop’s biggest stars, while others felt it was too aggressive.

Enter The Weeknd: the relatively unknown R&B singer who recently made waves in the music industry with his debut mixtape ‘House Of Balloons’. In response to Common’s diss track, he stepped up to defend fellow Canadian Drake by tweeting out a tweet that read “Common needs to relax”. Although this seemed innocuous enough on its own, given their prior history it didn’t take long for things to get heated.

Both sides quickly began lobbing insults at each other via social media as more and more people got involved in the drama. As tensions rose and tempers flared, many wondered if there would ever be an end to this ongoing feud.

The Weeknd’s Response

Enter The Weeknd. Amidst the chaos, he stepped in and made his voice heard with a simple tweet calling for Common to ‘relax’. This seemingly innocuous message quickly set off a firestorm of debate as fans from both sides began debating which rapper had the right to take offense.

The Weeknd’s response was seen by some as an act of solidarity with Drake, while others saw it as merely opportunistic – only stepping into the fray now that Drake seemed to be losing ground in the battle. Regardless of how people interpreted his motivations, one thing was clear: this newcomer had just thrown himself headfirst into a conflict between two heavyweight rappers and wasn’t going to back down anytime soon.

As the dust settled, it became increasingly evident that The Weeknd had put himself front and center in hip hop culture’s biggest feud. By siding with Drake he secured himself a place in rap history as well as endearing himself to countless fans who supported him through thick and thin.

Conclusion

I have to say, I’m impressed by The Weeknd’s response. He didn’t throw shots at either side of the conflict but instead showed respect for both artists and their legacies in hip-hop. His statement should be seen as an example of how to handle a situation like this with class and maturity.

It was easy for him to take sides in this diss track battle between Common and Drake, considering he worked with both of them before. But he chose not to do that; he simply acknowledged what had happened without getting involved himself. It’s refreshing to see someone show restraint in such a high profile dispute.

The Weeknd may still decide to drop his two cents on the matter later down the line, but right now it looks like he’s staying out of it. Regardless of what happens next, we can all appreciate the fact that The Weeknd showed respect to both parties while also keeping things classy throughout the entire ordeal.
