Since Jean Baylor’s departure from Zhane, she has released ‘Testimony: My Life,’ a solo project that demonstrated her growth musically, spiritually and lyrically.
Now the former “Hey Mr. DJ” hitmaker is prepping the release of her first Christmas project with the help of her husband, set to be available on iTunes by Thanksgiving.
“They are not traditional Christmas songs but definitely inspirational songs and songs relative to the holiday,” Baylor told Soul Train.
Though Baylor is religious and creates inspirational records, she is not crossing over into gospel, insisting “the music I create is really R&B mainstream, maybe a little more pop. But I really tend to make them purpose-driven.”
Viewing her fame and voice as a tool to uplift others, Baylor is collaborating with her husband to create songs with a message.
“People are starving, thirsty, with so much music out there that is not saying anything,” she says. “We like to say things that uplift people and heal their spirits.”
With no plans of a reunion with former Zhane group member Renee Neufville, Baylor may have found her musical match in her soul-mate.
