Bay Area singer/songwriter Goapele is finally making her comeback after taking a six year hiatus. Her highly anticipated album ‘Break of Dawn’ is due out on October 24th, and it encompasses songs dealing with love, life, loss, and everything in between.
“One of my goals for the newest project ‘Break of Dawn’ was to be more uninhabited,” Goapele says. “I came into this business as a young woman who wanted to be taken seriously for my music, but, now I’m more willing to share my sexiness as well. I realize that it’s possible to be both complex and provocative.”
With ‘Break of Dawn,’ the Oakland native achieves just that, while also infusing her known sounds of jazz, soul, hip hop, and poetry all in one. Led by the lead single “Play,” Goapele picks up precisely where she left off back with ‘Change It All’ in 2005. Just like her previous recordings, Goapele’s new album will also be dropped via conjunction of Decon and her own independent label Skyblaze Records.
“I like being more hands on when it comes to my music,” she says of the family-owned independent label. “Establishing Skyblaze allowed me to have a more direct connection with my business as well as the music.”
The album will feature a diversity of songs, including her hits “Play,” “Milk & Honey,” and “Tears On My Pillow.”
