After being announced for release last summer (2010), multi-platinum and chart-topping R&B singer Mark Morrison plans to release his third studio album ‘I Am What I Am,’ this summer/fall. The set will be lead by the official first single “I Am What I Am,” on the heels of the previously released “B Day” featuring Warren G.
According to Morrison, ‘I Am What I Am’ is a “delicious slice of soul,” with his distinctive vocals used to its maximum effect. All tracks were written by Morrison, and is set to include production from producers Mike City, and The Co-Stars.
Morrison is best known for his 1996 hit single “Return of the Mack,” which marked 15 years since it reached #1 in the UK last month. His debut album in ’96, ‘Return of the Mack’, became a multi-platinum success, selling 3 million copies worldwide. The single also opened the US market for him, spending a remarkable 41 weeks on the Billboard singles chart, where it peaked at #2, and made the Billboard Hot 100 “Songs of the Year” chart. The album made him the first artist in British pop history to have five Top 10 singles from their debut album. These included “Trippin’,” “Horny,” “Moan & Groan,” and “Crazy,” which also spent 7 weeks on the US Billboard singles chart.
Morrison’s career has been overshadowed by his run-ins with the law.
