Singer/Songwriter Rico Love, who will executive produce Teairra Mari’s forthcoming Warner Bros. debut effort, had nothing but good things to say about the former Roca-Fella Records songstress. According to Rico, the album is half way completed and Mari recently performed the lead single “That’s All Me” for the first time at R&B Live in Hollywood last week.
“She’s a superstar,” an excited Rico Love tells Singersroom at the 2011 SESAC Awards. “You gotta realize that Teairra Mari was in the game the same time as Rihanna. One right move, one wrong move and those roles could have been switched around. I believe in the same thing that Roca-Fella believed when they signed her years ago so I’m prepared to show the world what she can do and showcase her vocals.”
And if you think Rico can’t rake in success for Mari, he has a few words for the doubters.
“I love when people doubt me. They doubted me when I started Ushers album, they doubted me when I did Nellyâ¦Diddyâ¦Kelly Rowland, their doubting me right now with Mario,” says Love, who took home Songwriter of the Year at the 2011 SESAC Awards. “We gonna make sure the music speaks for its self; a hit record can’t be denied.”
Outside of the Puff Daddy and the Family’s “It’s All About the Benjamins” sampled first single “That’s All Me,” Teairra Mari will release her DJ Scream-hosted mixtape ‘Now or Never’ on May 30.
