In recognition of his commitment to Washington D.C. (District of Columbia), Grammy nominated R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn will be honored with a key to the city. Mayor Vincent C. Gray will bestow the acknowledgment to DeVaughn on Thursday, May 5, 2011 for his commitment to the Community, the Preservation of Music and Arts for the Youth and his dedication to educating and eradicating HIV/AIDS in the District’s Communities. May 5, DeVaughn’s birthday, will also become “Raheem DeVaughn Day.”
“I am humbled and truly honored to be the recipient of The Key To The City and my own day by the District Of Columbia. I am very thankful to Washington, DC for their loyalty and support”, says Raheem DeVaughn.
Through his music, DeVaughn has exercised his signature soulful sound with socially conscious lyrics. Understanding his social responsibility and impact upon the global community, Mr. DeVaughn stands strong in his convictions and dedication to serve the community by reaching back to pull others forward. He is involved in a number of philanthropic and community service initiatives that includes serving as the CDC HIV/AIDS Prevention Celebrity Partner, Celebrity Volunteer for the National Network to End Domestic Violence, Volunteer for the Annual Safeway Feast Of Sharing Thanksgiving Celebration, in addition to serving as a Mentor and Speaker for a number of Youth Organizations.
The Ceremony for Raheem DeVaughn’s Key To The City and Holiday Announcement with Mayor Vincent C. Gray will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2011 on the steps of the Wilson Building, located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, DC 20004 at 3 P.M.
