The show must go on! R&B icon, Aretha Franklin has confirmed that producers will continue plans for her big screen biopic despite Hollywood superstar, Halle Berry turning down the lead role. Last year, the legend revealed that her autobiography, “Aretha: From These Roots,” would be adapted into a movie. Being that Berry is the singer’s favorite actress, it seemed like a perfect fit.
While Franklin is steadily recovering, she found time last week for a phone interview with “The Wendy Williams Show”. During the interview Franklin announced to a cheering studio audience that Berry was her choice to play the Queen of Soul in her prime in the biopic.
“For the last four years, we’ve been talking about (the film), and I have had a number of offers. Unfortunately, they were not good offers,” the diva goes on to say,” Halle Berry is my pick!”
Since the show aired, Berry has informed fans and media to dismiss the rumors that she will star as Franklin. The actress claims that she would not be able to handle such a large musical lead. Berry tells E! Online, “If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice.”
Now that Berry will no longer play Franklin, which actress/singer do you think could do justice to such an iconic and classic singer as Aretha Franklin?
