The 42nd annual NAACP Image Awards nominations were announced Wednesday. British R&B star Sade nabbed the most nominations with four in categories of Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Song and Music Video for âSoldier of Love,â and Outstanding Album.
Following Sade’s domination is Herbie Hancock with three nods. He is up for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration, Outstanding Jazz Album and Outstanding World Music Album, thanks to his “Imagine Project” which teams him up with Pink, Seal, India.Arie and more.
Newcomer Willow Smith landed her first major award nomination, receiving a nod for Best New Artist and Outstanding Music Video for her debut single âWhip My Hair.â
Other multiple nominees include Kanye West, Usher, Rihanna, Cee-Lo Green, John Legend & The Roots, Maxwell and Alicia Keys.
The Image Awards celebrate the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film, as well as honoring individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.
