Soul star Erykah Badu recently premiered the remix music video to her controversial single “Window Seat,” featuring rapper Rick Ross. In the original video for “Window Seat,” Badu is captured walking the streets of Dallas’ Dealey Plaza in Texas, going from fully clothed to completely naked, then being shot at the end. Badu, who was looking to draw controversial dialogue over the racy video, was later charged for disorderly conduct, in which she plead not guilty. “I expected it to provoke dialogue, and it’s an important statement to make. It’s about freeing oneself of the layers and layers of things that we have learned as Americans in this country,” Badu said in a recent interview. Our guess is she didn’t die in the first “Window Seat,” since this version has her going to prison. She’s later picked up by Ross in his Porsche Panorama turbo and readies herself for another controversial act. “It’s basically, we continuing where the first ‘Window Seat’ ended,” Ross who directs the video told MTV. “Where she was assassinated and ultimately scooped up and arrested. We continuing from there. She’s got a dope cut on her album called ‘Get Money’.” Both “Window Seat” and “Get Money” are taken from Erykah Badu’s fifth studio album “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh),” which is currently in stores.

Erykah Badu is an iconic singer and songwriter known for her soulful music, positive message, and unique style. Her 2010 hit single “Window Seat” was a groundbreaking video that had people talking all over the world. Now she’s making buzz again with her new remix of the same song – but this time it’s different. Instead of taking off her clothes to emphasize her point about liberation as she did in the original video, Erykah keeps them on for this version. It’s definitely worth checking out!

In this article we’ll explore why Erykah chose to change up the visuals for the new remix, how fans are reacting to both versions of the video, and what lessons we can take away from these creative choices. We’ll also discuss why this remix featuring rapper Get Money deserves attention despite not getting as much recognition as its predecessor.

No matter whether you’re already familiar with Erykah Badu or just starting to discover her work, there’s a lot to appreciate here. So let’s dive in and find out more about why this latest release has been so well-received by listeners everywhere!

Music Video Analysis

The music video for Erykah Badu’s “Window Seat/Get Money Remix” offers a unique visual experience that both pays homage to and critiques the dominant culture of modern society. The opening scene features Badu alone on an empty street, slowly undressing as she moves forward in time. She is nude by the end of the video, but her nudity is not titillating or exploitative; instead it symbolizes freedom from societal expectations and norms.

Badu wears multiple layers throughout the video—a jacket over a t-shirt, leggings under shorts, a hat over a headscarf—and each layer represents another aspect of her identity: artist, lover, mother. As she strips away these garments one at a time while walking down the street towards her destination, we gain insight into who she really is. This journey serves as a metaphor for personal growth and liberation from limiting social conventions.

Throughout this symbolic act of self-expression, Badu makes sure to keep her clothes on for respectability’s sake—an intentional nod to how women must often adjust their behavior to fit into society’s standards of acceptability. By keeping her clothes on yet still boldly expressing herself through dance and physical movement, Badu captures what it means to be unapologetically true to oneself despite external pressures.

Cultural Impact

The music video for ‘Window Seat/Get Money Remix’ has had a profound cultural impact since its release. By exploring themes of liberation and self-expression, Badu taps into the very essence of human experience—the need to be seen and accepted as one’s authentic self without fear or judgement.

This message resonated with viewers across the world who were inspired by Badu’s courageous act of defiance against societal norms. Her choice to keep her clothes on while still asserting her identity was particularly significant in that it demonstrated a way to reject oppressive expectations while also maintaining respectability. Beyond simply being artful and creative, this visual representation spoke volumes about how our society can oppress even those who attempt to conform to set standards of acceptability.

Badu’s work has encouraged people everywhere to stand up for their rights and values, no matter how different they may be from what is traditionally accepted. In doing so, she created an anthem for individuals around the globe seeking freedom from oppressive systems and structures that allow certain voices to remain unheard.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Erykah Badu’s new music video for Window Seat/Get Money Remix is a powerful statement. It shares an important message about the objectification of women in our society and how it has become normalized in today’s culture. The fact that she chose to keep her clothes on while filming the video puts into perspective just how damaging this sexualized view of women can be. She proves that you don’t need to take off your clothes or act overly-sexualized to create art.

It serves as a reminder that everyone should have control over their own bodies and respect each other regardless of gender or sexuality. Her decision not to bare all also shows that beauty isn’t something one needs to show off through physical means; rather, it comes from within and expresses itself in different ways than what we may traditionally consider “sexy” or attractive. Overall, Erykah Badu’s choice to stay clothed was an empowering example of self-love and acceptance which has resonated with many fans across the world.
