The Jackson 5, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and the Supremes are among several artists who will be showcased in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Set to be seen, via captured pivotal performances, each act will be revisited in “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing: How the Apollo Theater Shaped American Entertainment.” According to organizers, the exhibition kicks off April 23 at the Washington, D.C.-based museum and runs through Aug. 29. It will then travel to Detroit (October 1 – Jan.2, 2011) and New York (Jan.30, 2011- May 1, 2011). Additional cities and dates will be announced at a later date.

They were the pioneers of Motown, and now the Jackson 5 are being honored in a new Smithsonian exhibition dedicated to their lives and music.
