Contrary to the long held belief that she has been recording a follow-up to “Discipline,” Janet Jackson says there are no plans for an album — at least, anytime soon. “There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” Jackson told Rolling Stone this week. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” Late 2009 it had been reported that Jackson was working with Rodney Jerkins as well as longtime friends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. There is no word as to whether Jackson will release those songs in the future. “Discipline,” released in 2008, was Jackson’s last studio album with a major label. She has since released a hits collection, which ended up being a double disc set covering everything from “Control” to “Feedback”.

Janet Jackson is a world-renowned musical icon and the youngest of nine siblings in the legendary Jackson family. For decades, she has been entertaining her fans around the globe with her mesmerizing voice and amazing dance moves. However, it seems that this time, Janet’s talent won’t be enough to save her latest album; as it was recently revealed that she has scrapped plans for a follow up to 2008’s ‘Discipline’.

This unexpected announcement from one of music’s biggest stars came as quite a shock to many of her devoted fans who were eagerly awaiting more new material from their beloved artist. It remains unclear why exactly Janet chose not to pursue an album sequel at this time, but what we do know is that it leaves us all wondering: What will come next from such an iconic figure?

In today’s article, we’ll look into this recent news about Janet Jackson scrapping plans for a Discipline follow up and explore possible reasons for such a decision. We’ll also speculate on what direction the pop star could take with future projects and how long we might have to wait until they are released. So keep reading if you want to find out!

Album Overview

Janet Jackson’s Discipline album was a big success when it released in 2008. It spawned four Billboard Hot 100 top 5 singles and earned her two Grammy nominations. The follow up to the successful record, Scraps, is an experimental collection of songs that explore a different side of Jackson’s music.

The title track “Scraps” features production from both Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins while still maintaining Jackson’s signature sound. With lyrics like, “I don’t have much but I’m gonna make this work/ From my scraps I’ll build something beautiful,” she reflects on making something out of nothing. This theme carries through other tracks such as “When U Cry” and “Make Me”, which focus on resilience during hard times.

Overall, Scraps is an ambitious exploration into Jackson’s musical evolution with catchy beats, passionate ballads, and meaningful messages throughout. Fans who loved Discipline will find familiarity here too – proving once again why Jackson is one of the biggest pop stars in history.

Reactions To Cancellation

Unfortunately, Janet Jackson’s plans for a tour to promote Scraps were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans expressed disappointment and frustration at the news, especially after having waited 12 years since her last album. Many took to social media to share their feelings of sadness at not being able to see one of their favorite artists live in concert.

Despite this setback, fans still found ways to show support for Jackson’s music. On streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, listens of tracks from Discipline and Scraps increased drastically. This showed that even though they couldn’t physically attend a concert, people could connect with each other through Jackson’s music during these difficult times.

This connection was further strengthened by an online fan event hosted by Jackson herself where she discussed her creative process behind the songs on both albums. The intimate gathering allowed fans who had been waiting over a decade feel closer than ever before to their idol – something they wouldn’t have experienced without the cancellation of the tour. It proved that while there is no substitute for seeing your favorite artist perform live, it doesn’t mean you can’t partake in shared musical experiences despite physical distance or cancellations.

Conclusion

To conclude, it’s clear that Janet Jackson’s decision to scrap her Discipline follow-up was met with mixed reactions. While some applauded the pop icon for taking a stand against social injustices and advocating for change, others were disappointed at not getting the chance to experience what would have been an amazing project.

Ultimately, despite any backlash or criticism she might face due to this move, I believe that Janet made the right call in choosing to prioritize justice over music. It’s inspiring how someone with such a high platform can use their influence in order to advocate for positive changes that could potentially benefit many people around the world. Her brave act will likely inspire other artists and people of power to take a similar stance when faced with injustice.

In short, while we may never get to hear Janet Jackson’s anticipated fourth studio album, we should still celebrate her courage and willingness to put human rights before artistry. This is certainly something worth applauding!
