Jay-Z officially has the top song in the country, crowning both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs charts. Coming in at no.1, after weeks of steady growth, Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” reached the summit Wednesday. While the song, which features Alicia Keys, is Jay-Z’s fourth feature at the top of Billboard’s coveted Hot 100 chart, it is his first number one as a non featured artist. Surprisingly, Jay-Z has never reached the summit on his own, at least until now. Previous Hot 100 chart-toppers for the rapper came from collaborative efforts with Mariah Carey (“Heartbreaker”), Rihanna (“Umbrella”) and Beyonce (“Crazy In Love”). A milestone for Alicia Keys as well, “Empire State of Mind” ends up being her fourth record to hit no.1. It follows “Fallin” (2001), “My Boo,” a duet with Usher (2004), and “No One” (2007). “Empire State of Mind” has also reached the summit on the Radio Songs chart, moving 6-1.
