R&B singer/songwriter K Jon pulled inspiration from a struggle to feed his family and make it in the music industry when penning his Urban AC Top 5 charting single “The Ocean”. “I was struggling to provide for my family at the time,” K Jon tells Singersroom. According to the Detroit native, the song was a surprising success and proof that hard work and perseverance pays off when you’re open to working just as hard as today’s movers and shakers in music. “There are a lot of local artists that are scared to let people hear their music,” says K Jon, before stating that aspiring artists like himself have to “work just as hard as competitors until you can work no more”. “That song came out of my heart. I felt like my time was passing while I was in the midst of all these movers and shakers and all the hype… I felt like my time was not going to come.” As the last few months have proven, K Jon’s time has come. His single “The Ocean” has been a Top 5 charting single on the Urban AC charts for weeks. In fact, the single has battled and topped mainstream hits from artists including Maxwell, Jennifer Hudson and Joe — all before a major distribution deal with Universal. Today, K Jon is close to the release of his Universal distributed debut titled “I Get Around”. Due August 4, “I Get Around” features a new mix of “The Ocean” as well as the songs “Fly Away,” “This Time” and “Summer Rain”.
