Rihanna’s stunning and surprising return to the red carpet this week was not just her idea but friend and recent collaborating artist Kanye West’s vision. In fact, West was the one who ushered in Rihanna’s surprise performance at the Costume Institute Gala. “Kanye asked her to do it, it was his idea but Wintour (Vogue’s editor in chief) had to approve it,” a source told E!s Marc Malkin Tuesday. Malkin, covering the event which took place inside New York’s famed Metropolitain Museum of Art, also confirms that Rihanna did indeed perform two songs at the bash where she had graced the red carpet with Ciara, Tyra Banks and Marc Jacobs. In related news, Rihanna shot a video with West for his soon to be released single “Paranoid” recently. The cut becomes her first video since lighting up the desert in the Justin Timberlake featured clip “Rehab”.
