Jill Scott, star of HBO’s No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and first time mom, says it’s beautiful to be both diverse onscreen and in the boardroom. “You have to diversify because nothing is guaranteed,” says Scott, who can already claim the titles songstress, poet, actress, and author but also businesswoman thanks to last year’s premiere of “The Butterfly Collection, inspired by Jill Scott”. The collection, now in stores through Ashley Stewart, is just one of the former “Golden” singer’s projects. In fact, Scott admits her mother gave her the gift of multitasking and an internal sense of accomplishment. “I learned this from my mother. She can sew, lay down hardwood floors, perform acupressure, and is also a dental hygienist. All of those things make her happy. That’s how I’ve wanted to live my life. If it happens to become something financially beneficial, then that’s great.” “Of course I want to make money to take care of my family and myself but, I want a livelihood that gives me internal pleasure.” In related news, Jill Scott has a remix album titled “The No.1 Lady Remixed” coming forward through Hidden Beach this summer. The project, set for release June 16, is likely to feature remixes of some of Scott’s acclaimed recordings. Since 2000 Jill Scott has released three studio albums, including 2007s “The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3”. Jill Scott is also featured in this month’s issue of Black Enterprise on newsstands now. Noted Sources: Black Enterprise May 2009, Hidden Beach
