Bobby V and Rihanna are leading the pack of nominees for this year’s Urban Music Awards slated to take place in July. BV, currently enjoying success with the single “I Apologize,” is up for three awards including Best Music Video, Best R&B Act and Best Male Act where he joins Flo Rida, Kid Cudi, and Dizzee Rascal. Also up for a number of awards is returning pop diva Rihanna. The former “S.O.S.” singer is up for four awards including Best Female Act 2009, Artist of the Year 2009, Best R&B Act and Best Music Video for “Rehab” (feat. Justin Timberlake). The Urban Music Awards (UMA’s) will be held on the 17th of July in New York City, also honoring Busta Rhymes with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ne-Yo, up for two UMA’s, says “a lot of US artists are always familiar with awards shows they see regularly and sometimes forget that there is a much bigger world out there. The Urban Music Awards is one of the biggest awards shows in Europe because it is the only show that gives a chance to music fans, booking agents, tour promoters worldwide to vote online for their favorites and that is credible to me and i am glad that it has expanded to the USA back to the roots of urban music”. You may vote for your favorite acts via urbanmusicawards.net where you may also find a complete list of nominees including Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Jazmine Sullivan, The Dream and Musiq Soulchild in addition to producers Mark Ronson, Stargate, Ryan Leslie, Swizz Beatz and Timberland.
