American Idol alum Mandisa has come into her own on the soon-to-be-released sophomore project “Freedom”. Due in stores March 24, “Freedom,” a follow up to the singer’s 2007 debut and Christmas/Holiday album “It’s Christmas,” features a more confident and refined Mandisa. Speaking with Billboard recently, Mandisa says “I’ve come into my own. I couldn’t tell everybody else that God could set them free and still deal with the same issues that had been plaguing me my entire life.” “The Lord was saying, ‘Ok, you are going to be an example of how I can set somebody free.” Reportedly loosing 75 pounds over the last year, Mandisa says “I really believe food is a substance addiction like alcohol and drugs. I would turn to food in order to fill a void and I would turn to it for comfort.” Considered the most personal effort to date, Mandisa’s “Freedom” hit stores and digital retailers March 24.
