Lil Wayne and M.I.A. are taking chances at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, in fact one chance may prove to be historic. First up, 2008’s best-selling rapper Lil Wayne is heading into the Grammys with a leading eight nominations… the question is… can he take them all home ? As proven in year’s past the most nominated star usually comes away with 1-3 awards, this was proven during both Usher’s “Confessions” and Mariah Carey’s “Emancipation of Mimi” leading years (2004 & 2005). Like Wayne, both singer’s went in with 8 nominations including Record of the Year but came away with 3 awards… let’s hope Lil Wayne gets his due. Unlike any of the aforementioned singer’s, Grammy-nominee M.I.A. has more than awards to worry about as she’s taking the stage 9 months pregnant ! To top that, M.I.A. is actually due to deliver her baby on Grammy night ! Despite the news and a doctors note, M.I.A. says she’s going to perform on the Grammy stage with everyone hoping that her water doesn’t break mid-performance. In an interview earlier this week, M.I.A. said she’s willing to take a chance. “They say that you’re often late the first time, so I’m planning to go. We’ll see. People are trying to get me to relax and focus on the baby. It’s like being in parallel universes.” Good luck M.I.A. If anything, she’ll have a historic Grammy moment if she does go into labor.
