R&B singer Fantasia is ready for an unexpected return to the Broadway stage in ‘The Color Purple’ ! Reprising her role as Celie, which began in 2007, Fantasia told BV Buzz that she’s signed to return to the hit show in June. While news of Fantasia’s return to the stage is great for the singer, fans and critics who wrote the singer off after she missed nearly 50 shows during the inaugural season of ‘The Color Purple’ may not be enthused. As previously revealed on Singersroom, Fantasia blamed the missed shows on a health scare, specifically a throat tumor found on her vocal chord. At the advice of her doctors, Fantasia withdrew from performing until the tumor was removed. Fantasia’s new stint, set to kick off in Washington D.C., will run for three months beginning June 30th. Fantasia’s last album, 2006’s “Fantasia,” spawned the hit singles “Hood Boy,” “When I See You,” and “Only One You”.
