‘Notorious,’ the highly anticipated and much-talked-about flick surrounding the life of the Notorious B.I.G., stormed theaters and the weekend box office according to 20th Century Fox. ‘Notorious,’ starring Jamal Woolard, Angela Bassett, and Derek Luke among others, raked in $21.5 million in three days, landing at no.4. “We crossed over, which speaks volumes about his impact as a cultural icon,” says Chris Aronson, senior vice president of domestic distribution for 20th Century Fox. Aronson noted the fact that ‘Notorious’ struck a cord with everyone and not just African American audiences according to the LA Times. While ‘Notorious’ did well, it was ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’ that took the #1 spot in theaters with $33.8 million. The flick, a film about a hapless security guard who foils a crime ring, knocked last week’s box-office winner ‘Gran Torino’ down to the no.2 spot where it raked in $22.2 million.
