Mariah Carey has upped the ante for her upcoming release “The Ballads” by re-recording the fan-favorite “Hero”. Surprising many, some enthused…others not, Mariah Carey puts a 2009 spin on “Hero” (watch below) in a recently released video. “The Ballads,” Carey’s first collection of classics like “Always Be My Baby,” “Vision of Love” and “One Sweet Day” is slated to hit stores Jan. 20 through SONY. In related news, Mariah Carey snagged a nice payout over New Years. The “Stay In Love” singer picked up $1 million after agreeing to peform four songs at the Nikki Beach Club on the Caribbean Island of St. Barts ! Carey spent the remainder of New Year’s Eve partying up with Beyonce, Jay-Z and Timbaland who were also visiting the island for New Years.
