Canadian(Ontario)-born R&B singer Keisha Chante has been confirmed to play Aaliyah in a much-anticipated biopic set for release next year. According to the National Post, the ink is dry on Chante’s contract to portray the R&B singer in the as-yet-titled biopic. Chronicling the life of the R&B star that brought magic to both the screen and the studio, Aaliyah’s biopic will attempt to cover the singer’s journey up to her untimely death in 2001. Chante, a successful R&B singer who released “2U” in 2006, will also star in a new television series entitled “Soul,” set to hit the ‘small screen’ early 2009. The “Get To Know You” singer is also plotting the release of her third studio album due next year. While a release date has not been set, the Aaliyah biopic is rumored to be hitting theaters mid-2009.
