They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Brandy’s highly anticipated comeback disc did not translate to a Billboard chart-topping release as once thought. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the “Human” singer’s album raked in just 73,000 copies in its first week. In an otherwise great week for many R&B stars, Brandy’s album, packed with songs like “Long Distance” and “Right Here (Departed)” marked the singer’s lowest debut in history. Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Musiq Soulchild debuted on chart at no. 11, with 91,000 copies sold, followed by Avant, who released his self-titled Capitol Records debut, at no. 26 with 52,000 copies. Beyonce’s “I Am … Sasha Fierce” had quite a week. The singer’s album, packed with songs like “Diva,” “Ego” and “Halo,” moved 200,000 copies placing it over the Platinum mark while Kanye West’s new album “808s & Heartbreak” moved another 159,000 copies — their efforts sit at no.3 and no. 6 respectively. The real queen’s of this weeks chart are Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. Swift, who shocked many people with her debut cd “Fearless” a few weeks back, five to be exact, raked in another 249,000 copies this week, placing her CD at no.1. Britney Spears’ Jive set “Circus” follows right behind the country star at no.2. Spears moved anohter 200, 000 copies. Next Week: Watch for chart debuts from Keyshia Cole, Anthony Hamilton, and Jamie Foxx. Update: Common’s “Universal Mind Control” debuted at no.12 with 82,000 copies sold.
